Our first SLT Food Committee meeting of 2018! Thanks to Amy Honjiyo, we just received the Food Waste Challenge Grant from the LA Public Works! The $7,500 grant funds a 60-day community food waste reduction project. We proposed a series of community composting workshops using a special Bokashi technique! The project will begin in late January/early February and we need to start planning!

The meeting's focus will be on:

  1. Planning for our SLT Community Composting Project through the LA Food Waste Grant Challenge
  2. Setting 2018 priorities: Obon food recovery, farmer's market, etc.



SLT's Food Committee envisions a healthy and thriving community that uses environmentally sustainable practices in homes, businesses, organizations, and cultural programs; works to provide locally-sourced, healthy, and accessible produce for residents and businesses; sustains its legacy businesses and their culinary specialties; and promotes the Japanese cultural value of mottainai—”do not waste.”
