FandangObon is an annual two-day community festival in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles that celebrates our Japanese, Mexican, and African American communities. The festival begins with the Encuentro community gathering, a day of hands-on workshops on artistic and environmental practices that explores connections with our neighbors and environment. The festival culminates with the FandangObon communal music and dance festival and marketplace, bridging the traditions of fandango from Veracruz, Mexico, Japanese Buddhist bon odori, and West African dance from Nigeria and New Guinea. Amidst divisive changes in our culture and environment, the FandangObon festival envisions a healthy, sustainable, and radically inclusive Los Angeles.
